Building community and belonging in online courses
We are exploring how online courses can create a more memorable and meaningful experience for students, especially those pursuing online majors. One area of interest is how to create community among majors in larger classes with non-majors. We are testing different course designs to assess whether intentional structures allow for students to feel more connected to their peers and their majors.
Inclusive course policies and student success
We are examining how inclusive course policies can support student success in large online classes. Our work explores how course structures can better accommodate students’ varied circumstances while helping them stay engaged, make progress and meet their learning goals. Through this research, we aim to understand how students experience these policies and how thoughtful course design can create more supportive learning environments.
