At the School of Human Evolution and Social Change, we study the evolution of the human condition in order to understand our present and our future. Through the intersections of archaeology, social anthropology, evolutionary anthropology, global health, environmental social science and bioarchaeology, we bring the study of the human experience to life for our students and communities.

As a member, you will be invited to have a closer look at our work with an invitation to a series of special events each academic year that highlight research and education here. These include special public lectures, opening exhibitions in our school museum spaces or partner museums, visits to archaeological sites and communities where we conduct our work, and opportunities to volunteer in our labs and research sites.

Possible activites may include:

  • Field work at S'edav Va'aki and other sites with Professors Matthew Peeples and Matthew Kroot, learning about the ancestors of the Indigenous Akimel O'odham people (Gila River Indian Community and Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community) that have inhabited Phoenix for more than 2,000 years.
  • Attending the opening of the exhibit 50 Years Since the Discovery of Lucy, highlighting insights into our human story with faculty from the Institute of Human Origins at ASU.
  • Hosted visits to our labs to experience our public global health impact work first hand.
  • Lectures from world renowned scholars discussing topics ranging from the impacts of climate change on human populations to new discoveries about ancient ancestors.
  • Group tour of the Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve with Assistant Director John Bello and ASU professors of Southwestern Archaeology.
