Volunteer Opportunity
Unique opportunity for Tribal Members with Arizona State University and the City of Phoenix at S’edav Va’aki
Arizona State University and City of Phoenix Archaeology Office, in partnerships with the Tribal Historic Preservation Offices of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa and Gila River Communities, will be running a training program in archaeological site assessment and documentation. The goal of this project is to help the City protect and maintain the ancient site of S’edav Va’aki from damage and erosion.
Participants will learn how to identify, document, and analyze ancient settlements, while helping with preservation of this important place.
Volunteer hours will be on Fridays, starting January 17 through April 25, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Volunteer Tribal members must be 18 years of age and will have flexibility in how much they would like to participate. Opportunities include training in site identification and assessment, artifact analysis, and lectures and readings on the history of S’edav Va’aki and the surrounding area in ancient times.
