All undergraduate students in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change are free to use our undergraduate lounge located in SHESC 140. The lounge has couches, a refrigerator, microwave, books and magazines for students to make use of while on campus between classes. It is also a great place to socialize and meet other students in the school.
The School of Human Evolution and Social Change provides a variety of financial resources and awards to our graduate students.
We provide a dynamic, challenging, interdisciplinary environment where supportive faculty will push you to excel. Joining our school gives you access to hundreds of advanced social science courses, extensive professionalism and skills-development opportunities, 40 cutting-edge labs, huge material collections, field schools and teaching opportunities.
Our graduate students participate in major collaborative projects through our many research centers, and join a large dynamic community of scholars in allied fields.
Our Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program places undergraduate students into research apprenticeship opportunities, working with individual faculty members and their research teams on our school’s many outstanding research projects.
Any student may apply to faculty-led research projects that best suit their interests, skills and experience. Generally, research experiences are differentiated as entry level, mid level and upper level, which reflect the students’ academic level and experience working on school projects.

Every semester, the School of Human Evolution and Social Change grants research award(s) in the amount of $1,000 to select undergraduate students in its majors. The awards allow students to explore a topic close to their interests, giving them unique experience for graduate school in any field in addition to building and strengthening their resumes. Students are awarded a stipend for 9 hours of supervised study each week (of the semester that they have been awarded) to carry out their own research.
