Assistant Director, School of Human Evolution and Social Change
Tempe Campus

Monica Watkins is the assistant director of the School of Human Evolution and Social Change. She plans, organizes and directs the entire operations and administration of the school, in addition to special projects that support its mission and its faculty, staff and students. This includes facilitating a variety of complex programs and activities; developing long and short-range goals; developing and implementing school policies and procedures; ensuring the integrity of the school’s governance; and coordinating and overseeing staff leadership and supervised staff in core areas (Academic and Student Services, Business and Research Operations, Facilities and Administrative Services, Communications and Marketing, Outreach and Development) and centers to identify efficiencies, collaborative opportunities and problem solve in relation to the school’s strategic goals.

Additionally, she takes the lead role in the design and management of programs that require coordination across multiple domains of the school, such as those at the intersection of research, instructional and outreach programs critical to the school’s mission (including program reviews, responding to complex, integrated collaborative research opportunities, and facilities and space planning). Acting on behalf of the director, Watkins serves as a liaison with the community, students, faculty and staff in facilitating university programs and represents the school as a member of the school’s directorate and leadership team.
