Biography

Mia Charifson is a graduate student in the Center of Evolution and Medicine and the School of Human Evolution and Social Change pursuing a PhD in Global Health. Her broad research focuses on better understanding the mechanisms of female health disorders and furthermore, why some populations might be at higher risk than others to experience such female health disorders. Her current research includes understanding how and by what mechanism birth control influences immune profiles in females to help inform the links between autoimmune disorders, which are more common in females, and female reproductive hormones. In the future, Mia hopes to connect understandings of immunology, genetics and endocrinology to provide a more holistic approach to diagnosing and treating female health disorders.
