Mr. Lorang studies graduate level Environmental Social Science focusing on comparisons between urban and rural migratory populations concerning access to resources in both sending and receiving areas. Main research questions include motivation for migration, choice of settlement location, and sustenence solutions among populations concerning access to self sustaining environmental resources. Areas of focus to include Central/South American regional migrants to urban cities, as well as urban growth as a result of population shifts.
Lorang's main goal will be to strengthen understandings of urban support systems for migrants and low-income urban residents. Populations threatened by environmental degradation who relocate (within cities or from rural to urban areas) may face challenges overlooked in common discourse. Research will be focused on how best of provide urban residents with optimal protection and living standards in the face of climate change.
