Brian Schraum manages communications, marketing and events for the School of Human Evolution and Social Change. This includes responsibility for the school's communications strategy, website, editorial content, newsletters, social media platforms and major events. He joined the school in July 2017.
Schraum previously served as a full-time instructor of media writing in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. His prior roles include program coordinator and faculty advisor to a community college student newspaper program and managing editor for the Student Press Law Center, a Washington, D.C. nonprofit legal organization.
His academic interests include media law and the First Amendment, with a specific focus on public high school and college students. Schraum's thesis explored how free expression issues are framed for school administrators in their principal and superintendent training programs. He is a past president of the Pacific Northwest Association of Journalism Educators.
Schraum has also developed websites on a range of content management systems including Wordpress, Drupal and custom applications. He brings more than 15 years of experience building sites with HTML and CSS.
