The power of collaboration

Discovery & Research At ASU's School of Human Evolution and Social Change

We started as an anthropology program in the 1960s, and are world-renowned for our extraordinary faculty in physical anthropology, bioarchaeology, archaeology and cultural and medical anthropology. While our school has the largest anthropology graduate program in the country, we also now have the largest undergraduate global health one too. We have been able to push the boundaries of social science research and training by bringing together many experts from complementary fields, such as epidemiology, modeling, political science, geography and sociology.

What sets our school apart is the belief that collaboration not just within but beyond anthropology is key to a real understanding of the human condition, letting us look at complex social problems in new ways. But we work together purposefully in many other ways too. We look to the past to see into the future. We teach seamlessly between traditional immersion and virtual classrooms to embrace new instructional technologies. We understand that great research and training need to draw heavily and constantly on each other, so all our research must involve our students as collaborators.

We love being part of the largest, most innovative research university in the U.S. and the energy that such scale and diversity of students brings into our school. And, we all work closely with an extraordinary set of staff to provide an unparalleled level of support to push the boundaries of what is possible.
