K-12 Programs

All in-person museum programs, events and tours, including public and school tours, remain suspended until further notice.

Field trips

Children outside at the Deer Valley Petroglyph PreserveField trips are available for school groups grades K-12.

The field trips are scheduled for 1 hour and 45 minutes and include an interactive tour of the museum, nature preserve, petroglyphs, mesquite bean grinding with manos and metates, and a take-home activity. Reservations are required, at least four weeks in advance.

Our knowledgeable educators will introduce your students to the following subjects:

  • Archaeology
  • Prehistoric Native Cultures of Arizona
  • Rock Art
  • Desert Ecology

Due to space limitations, our field trips are limited to groups of 100 or less. We can accommodate larger groups over multiple days.

Preparing for your field trip

$2.50 per student (grades K-8)
$3.50 per student (grades 9+)
Free for teachers and chaperones (minimum required one adult per every five students)

Act One partnership and Title I schools

Students receive a guided tour at DVPPField trips for Title I schools are offered at discounted rate of $1.50 for grades K-8, and $2.50 for grades 9-12.

Field trips to the preserve can also be scheduled through our partnership with Act One. Every year Act One covers all but $1 of admission costs per student and provides funding for transportation for over 43,000 students in the state of Arizona to attend art-based field trips. Registration opens for Act One field trips in early August. For more information on how to participate, please visit www.act1az.org.

Home school groups

Home school programs are available for home-school organizations of 10 or more throughout the year. Home school programs include a guided tour of the museum, nature trail and petroglyphs, and a take-home craft activity.

There is a $50 no-show or cancellation fee for groups that cancel less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled tour.
