Spatial and Settlement Analysis
Settlement pattern levels from activity loci to interregional scales form major components of several research programs at ASU. Quantified spatial data in large data sets enable a variety of research contributions by students and faculty, with Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing and geospatial modeling underpinning several projects. Recent work focuses on such topics as abandonment, crafts, marketing, exchange, symbolic architectural and offertory arrangements, regional settlement histories and recursive environmental effects and urban structures. Survey and mapping projects by faculty and students are concentrated in Spain, Jordan, the Southwest U.S. and Mesoamerica.
