Ceramics
Ceramic analysis and theory are critical to the study of prehistoric middle-range and state-level societies. ASU archaeologists commonly contribute to the advancement of ceramic method and theory while addressing a wide range of issues pertaining to ceramic production and distribution processes; the roles of pottery in social, symbolic, and economic systems; ethnographic analogs; and ceramic seriation methods. Integrating graduate-student research with their own, School of Human Evolution and Social Change faculty actively work on ceramics in various culture areas of the American Southwest, central Mexico, the gulf lowlands of Mexico, Jordan and Cyprus.
