Ostrom earns award, honorary doctorate
May 12, 2008
More honors are being added to the already impressive trove of Elinor Ostrom, a research professor in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change and founding director, Center for the Study of Institutional Diversity.
Ostrom, a major figure in the fields of anthropology, political science and economics, is the recipient of the 2008 William H. Riker Prize in Political Science. She was accorded this major honor "for advancing the scientific study of politics through research on the institutions governing common-pool resources in political, economic and environmental contexts and for demonstrating the implications of that research for effective policy." The awards ceremony took place May 9 at the University of Rochester.
Additionally, Ostrom has been chosen to receive an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from McGill University on May 30. The degree will be conferred during the spring convocation ceremonies.
Ostrom is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and past president of the American Political Science Association.
